The Baltimore County school board approved amending Superintendent Joe Hairston's contract at its June 14 meeting so Hairston will get the same percentage raise as teachers.

Last year, the school board gave him a $45,000 raise when it renewed Hairston's contract through 2008.

The 24 percent raise brought his salary to $230,000.

Under an amendment approved last week, however, Hairston will receive a 4 percent raise, the same as for teachers.

The increase will bring Hairston's salary to $239,200.

According to the amendment, Hairston is eligible for a raise only when teachers receive one and the percentage must be the same as for teachers.
