The Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference final was not indicative of how the season went for Friends, according to Quaker coach Jon Garman.

While the Quakers (18-1) made short work of Annapolis Area Christian School at Johnny Unitas Stadium on Friday night, the 10-2 rout of the Eagles wasn't the product of an inferior opponent rolling over for its superior.

"We had a very tough time in the conference this year," said Garman, who made an old-school coaching duo with assistant Rich Seiler this spring. "We only beat them (AACS), 9-6, during the regular season and only beat John Carroll, 9-7. That was a very good team we beat tonight."

On Friday, however, the Eagles never had a chance after Dave Madgeburger scored early in the second half to give Friends a 5-1 advantage.

"We made three or four great catches on the play," Garman said. "Instead of being 4-2 it's 5-1, and I think that took a lot of wind out of their sails."

With Quaker seniors defenders Michael John, Matt Collins, Jon Schmidt and others applying plenty of pressure, the Eagles could muster only one goal over the final 20:33.

"We had some seniors back there and some young guys, too," Garman said. "We were pretty good defensively all year."

Friends wasn't burning up the scoreboard, either, in the third period, waiting until 1:31 remained in the quarter for junior Michael Sweet to give them a 6-1 advantage and a boatload of momentum heading into the final frame.
